P001 - Why do we need the Church?
:vote-pace:
This initial session in an eight part series on an Introduction to the Nature of the Church begins to explore the question of why the church is essential. A first response to the question is that the church passes on divine revelation. What Christ entrusted to the  apostles, they in turn handed on to all generations through their preaching and writing, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. This process and its products make up Sacred Tradition. Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture form a single sacred statement of the word of God. The church contemplates God, the source of all her riches and through her doctrine, life and worship, passes on to all of us everything she believes.
In this podcast hear how a simple gesture sets into motion faith being passed from one person to another.  Please listen in and then, in the community forum for this podacst, share stories like the one you will hear, comment on the content of the printed materials (contact us if you are not in St. Vincent’s parish and want to order these materials), and make observations about any part of the ensuing conversation. Â
Thank you for being a part of this electronic effort to pass on the faith –perhaps another step in the ongoing catechetical formation of our tradition and ample answer of why we need the church. Peace –PACE!

Perhaps, this comment wil help get the discussion going.
Since in the church we experience God’s presence and God’s self communication, and from John 1:1
, it says, “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God,” further, when you hear the Word proclaimed, we hear the voice of God, how has God’s Word, Jesus Christ, touched and guided your life?

Greg,
First my thanks to you and your crew or committee who put all of this together. Once I am able to find the time to read and listen, then it is easy to be engaged and want to participate.
I would like to comment on your first question about how the Word of God has touched me and guided my life. For me the Word of God first starts out very small, hearing the gospel, being still during meditaton, sitting before the Eucharist during Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. It might be a thought, it might be hearing the Gospel read during the C cycle, which I know I have heard hundreds of times, and then days or weeks could go by before I take action on the word I heard. It isn’t until I stop and reflect on what has happened that I realize my actions were origianlly initiated by hearing the Word of God. This has happened in working through problems, trying to make a decision about my career and even planning retirement.
It is neat to rejoice in the Word of God!
